The Monkey River Tour/ Manatee watch is one of the most unique tours there is in Southern Belize, it gives you a unique aspect of one the oldest villages in Southern Belize while capturing some of the most exotic animals Belize has to offer. The tour consists of a 35 to 45-minute boat ride from Placencia Village, passing through the manatee grounds. The views of the Antillean Manatee are breath-taking, and watching them put on a show for their spectators is one that many can dream of.
The River tour is approximately 3 miles up the river, we will reach the trail for the hike. On the ride up there river you will be able to do bird watch and sightseeing of crocodiles, iguanas, fresh water turtles also locally know as bocotora, and sometimes even our majestic jaguars. The 1 mile hike through the tropical rain forest will allow you to view several species of tropical birds, howler monkeys, gibnut (Paca), possums, snakes, tarantulas, etc.
At the end of the river tour, we will do a brief tour of the village and you can interact with the wonderful people of Monkey River Village and learn more about their history and how Monkey River was once a town and has transitioned into Belize's oldest Village which is now one of the most important fishing communities in Southern Belize.
After our Monkey River Tour, on our way back to Placencia Village, we will stop at the manatee grounds, whereby we get to see the many wonders of the Antillean Manatee. Thereafter we head back to Placencia Village to drop you off at your destination.
